Description

  • Own and deliver quarterly team goals, guiding engineers through ambiguous problems from planning to execution.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to shape ideas, clarify technical constraints, and assess risks and trade-offs.
  • Identify project, process, technology, and business issues proactively and lead efforts to resolve them.
  • Support system operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call and keep-the-lights-on work.
  • Set and improve code review and design standards, and promote quality practices through writing and tech talks.
  • Mentor engineers, provide feedback and guidance, and help develop talent on the team.
  • Translate team objectives into concrete technical projects and identify cross-cutting risks and opportunities.
  • Drive technical investments that improve long-term execution, performance, scalability, and operational health.
  • Support hiring by contributing to high-signal recruiting and helping onboard new hires and interns.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
  • Experience building backend services with languages such as Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with simple, elegant, extensible designs.
  • Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and create tools and practices to do so safely.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth through proactive feedback-seeking from managers, peers, and stakeholders.
  • High-quality coding practices that produce code that is easy for others to understand and use.
