Description

  • Own the backlog and story quality for complex engagements spanning multiple engineering tracks or workstreams.
  • Translate product strategy and roadmap direction into epics, stories, and acceptance criteria with high independence.
  • Identify and resolve requirements gaps, make well-reasoned decisions, and keep delivery moving when direction is incomplete.
  • Lead and facilitate backlog refinement sessions and ensure the team is not blocked by story ambiguity.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies as a senior contributor and help improve ceremony effectiveness.
  • Mentor and guide other Product Owners by reviewing stories and raising the quality bar.
  • Partner with UX to ensure research findings and design decisions are accurately reflected in the backlog.
  • Communicate backlog health, scope risks, and delivery signals to the PM and Delivery Lead.
  • Champion AI-forward backlog practices, including using AI in story writing, acceptance criteria, and requirements analysis.
  • Contribute product context in client-facing discussions on scope, requirements, and trade-offs.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst on software delivery teams.
  • 4+ years of experience in a consulting, professional services, or agency environment.
  • Proven experience owning complex backlogs across multi-team or multi-track engagements.
  • Experience working from both internal PM direction and direct client PM/PO direction.
  • Strong Agile/Scrum experience and understanding of how backlog quality affects delivery outcomes.
  • Highly autonomous, with the ability to identify and resolve requirements gaps without constant direction.
  • Experience collaborating with client PMs and POs, including constructive pushback when needed.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to produce reliable documentation for engineering, QA, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively across globally distributed, cross-cultural teams.
  • Regular use of AI tools as a standard part of the Product Owner workflow.
  • Ability to coach others on AI-forward backlog and documentation practices.
  • Preferred: experience writing stories for products with AI/ML features.
  • Preferred: familiarity with AI product capabilities such as recommendations, NLP, and generative features.
