Description

  • Lead and manage a team of 4–8 engineers within one product area or domain.
  • Own team delivery outcomes, including roadmap execution, reliability, and quality.
  • Partner with Product and Design to translate business priorities into technical plans.
  • Drive cycle planning, estimation, and delivery accountability.
  • Remove blockers and resolve cross-team dependencies.
  • Balance speed of delivery with long-term maintainability and system health.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, performance reviews, and career development support.
  • Hire, interview, and onboard engineers as the team grows.
  • Create a psychologically safe environment while maintaining high standards.
  • Escalate risks, communicate tradeoffs, and contribute to process and culture improvements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing engineers.
  • Hands-on engineering involvement expected 50–80% of the time.
  • Experience leading teams of at least 4 engineers.
  • Strong track record of delivering complex software projects on schedule.
  • Solid system design fundamentals and architectural judgment.
  • Experience partnering with Product and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and grow engineers across multiple levels.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and set clear direction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to manage conflict constructively.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments (preferred).
  • Experience managing distributed or remote-first teams (preferred).
  • Strong background in distributed systems or event-driven architecture (preferred).
  • Experience contributing to engineering process improvements at the organizational level (preferred).
  • Experience managing through technical transformation or re-architecture (preferred).
  • Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Nest.js, React.js, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Redshift, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, AWS, and DataDog.
