Description

  • Identify the highest-impact problems to solve and guide the team’s work toward those priorities.
  • Lead the development of products, features, and technical interventions that deter bad actors from undermining security and privacy.
  • Drive a cross-functional team across engineering, design, data science, community management, and partner teams to build and deploy changes iteratively.
  • Own product planning and feature prioritization across user safety and anti-abuse initiatives, resolving competing priorities using data and community feedback.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with user communities, proactively gathering ideas and feedback throughout product development.
  • Partner with leaders across the Wikimedia Foundation to shape overall strategy for user safety and anti-abuse.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in online safety, security, and privacy.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in product development, including agile development experience with internet- and consumer-facing software.
  • Proven success leading product initiatives that coordinated multiple functions across an organization, even without a formal Product Manager title.
  • Experience and comfort querying, analyzing, and interrogating data to drive measurable solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across management, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of responsibilities in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.
  • Belief that Wikipedia and its community model are valuable and worth supporting.
  • Ability to make decisive, timely decisions in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Ability to communicate strategically and candidly in public and private with community members.
  • Experience working directly in online security and privacy, either standalone or within a broader product (preferred).
  • Experience working with online communities, especially public communities (preferred).
  • Background in software engineering or applied information security (preferred).
  • Must be authorized to work in one of the listed hiring locations, including approved U.S. states or eligible countries.
