Description

  • Lead development of deep learning and machine learning models to improve human-led triaging and automate high-volume workflows.
  • Design and build GenAI LLM and VLM solutions for self-driving behavior analysis and anomaly detection.
  • Develop reinforcement learning systems based on human preference data for collection and evaluation workflows.
  • Enhance user feedback analysis tools for multi-label classification, sentiment analysis, comment summarization, root cause analysis, and trend analysis.
  • Oversee production and optimization of machine learning models used to assess Waymo’s fleet at scale.
  • Drive technical direction and provide technical input and guidance to the team.
  • Work with PMs and TPMs to define product requirements and align technical work with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Prediction, Planning, Research, technical leads, and senior leadership across Waymo on strategic efforts.
  • Build and operate scalable machine learning and data systems, simulation workflow tools, and insight tools to improve evaluation and onboarding experiences.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong coding experience in C++ and/or Python.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: foundational models, VLMs, or deep learning.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with machine learning projects.
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Experience deploying deep learning models at scale.
  • Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related quantitative field with a specialization in machine learning.
  • Preferred: Deep learning experience with Transformers.
  • Preferred: GenAI LLM/VLM experience.
  • Preferred: Experience building tools for applied machine learning, including MLOps, evaluation/validation techniques, and model performance optimization.
  • Preferred: Large-scale data processing and analytical skills.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $238,000 to $302,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program.
  • Eligibility for Waymo’s equity incentive plan.
