Description

  • Contribute to bioinformatics strategy for MRD assay design, development, optimization, and lifecycle management under CAP/CLIA quality systems.
  • Lead and support study design, data analysis, performance characterization, and technical decision-making throughout assay development.
  • Apply expertise in cancer genomics, ctDNA biology, and NGS technologies to inform assay architecture, variant detection, and error suppression approaches.
  • Design and execute analytical studies to evaluate assay performance, including accuracy, limit of detection, and reproducibility.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain scalable, production-ready bioinformatics pipelines for MRD analysis, including QC, variant calling, MRD calling logic, and reporting.
  • Lead benchmarking and optimization of computational methods, including background error modeling and longitudinal MRD tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA, FDA, and IVDR standards through testing and documentation across the bioinformatics development lifecycle.
  • Partner with wet-lab, clinical, QA/RA, and software teams to align bioinformatics solutions with assay design, regulatory expectations, and operational constraints.
  • Contribute technical documentation, validation reports, and responses for regulatory submissions, audits, and inquiries.
  • Provide technical mentorship and scientific guidance to junior scientists and communicate complex results to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field, or an M.Sc. plus 3 additional years of industry experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in biotech, diagnostics, or regulated healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in NGS-based assay development for clinical diagnostics, including ctDNA-based MRD assays and personalized or tumor-informed approaches.
  • Strong programming skills in Python with experience developing reproducible, production-grade analysis pipelines and using SDLC best practices.
  • Proven experience working in design-controlled, regulated environments such as CAP/CLIA LDT, IVD, or equivalent.
  • Experience developing novel bioinformatics methodologies and algorithms, including benchmarking computational methods.
  • Track record of working with wet-lab scientists on iterative experiment design, execution, analysis, and interpretation as an integrated team.
  • Demonstrated technical and scientific ownership with the ability to work independently.
  • Preferred: Experience developing and deploying bioinformatics workflows in AWS such as EC2, S3, Step Functions, Batch, and Lambda.
  • Preferred: Strong understanding of germline and somatic mutation processes and genome-wide biomarkers with clinical utility.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of R.
  • Preferred: Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $170,000-$187,000 for San Diego, $177,000-$207,000 for South San Francisco, and $162,000-$178,000 for remote US candidates.
