Description

  • Lead bioinformatics strategy, design, and development for one or more MRD LDT programs.
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership for assay design, optimization, and MRD calling methodologies.
  • Review and contribute to signal detection, error suppression, and assay architecture decisions.
  • Lead or oversee analytical study design and data analysis for assay development and validation.
  • Guide development, validation, and maintenance of production-ready bioinformatics pipelines for MRD analysis, QC, and reporting.
  • Ensure bioinformatics work meets CAP/CLIA, FDA, and IVDR requirements through testing and documentation.
  • Mentor and coach bioinformatics scientists and senior scientists through technical guidance and review.
  • Collaborate with wet-lab, clinical, quality, regulatory, and software teams on iterative assay development.
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of management experience in biotech, diagnostics, or regulated healthcare.
  • Demonstrated experience leading NGS-based assay development for clinical diagnostics.
  • Hands-on experience with ctDNA-based MRD assays, including personalized or tumor-informed approaches.
  • Strong programming skills in Python with experience building and benchmarking reproducible, production-grade analysis pipelines.
  • Experience with SDLC best practices.
  • Proven experience working in design-controlled regulated environments such as CAP/CLIA LDT, IVD, or equivalent.
  • Track record of working closely with wet-lab scientists on iterative experiment design, execution, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience developing and deploying bioinformatics workflows in AWS such as EC2, S3, Step Functions, Batch, and Lambda, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of R, preferred.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of germline and somatic mutation processes and genome-wide biomarkers, preferred.

  • Competitive base salary of $192,000-$208,000 for remote US candidates, with higher ranges for San Diego and South San Francisco roles.
