Description

  • Design and build the core 401(k) platform, including event processing, plan configuration, eligibility rules, and supporting services.
  • Own end-to-end vertical slices across AWS infrastructure, Kotlin backend services, and TypeScript frontend work.
  • Participate in product conversations with business users and push back on requirements when needed.
  • Help define architecture decisions such as infrastructure-as-code approach, service boundaries, and data model.
  • Interview internal subject-matter experts and translate retirement domain knowledge into working software.
  • Set standards for AI-native engineering practices and define how the team uses tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and agents.
  • Deliver features in a greenfield environment with meaningful ownership and ambiguity.
  • Collaborate with a senior, small team serving a US-based client with overlap to East Coast working hours.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with senior- or staff-level responsibility.
  • Strong backend engineering experience on the JVM, with Kotlin preferred and Java or Scala acceptable.
  • Production experience with TypeScript and a frontend framework such as React or Angular.
  • Solid cloud infrastructure fundamentals, including networking, IAM, compute, and managed services.
  • Experience designing non-trivial systems and defending architectural trade-offs.
  • Fluent English for daily communication with business users and engineers.
  • Strong AI-native workflow fluency with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent agents.
  • Production AWS experience, including VPCs, IAM, and RDS or Lambda/ECS trade-offs.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK.
  • Experience in regulated or transactional domains such as fintech, payments, healthcare, insurance, ERP, or billing systems.
  • Comfort working in greenfield ambiguity and making progress when major decisions are still unresolved.
  • Direct retirement, pensions, or 401(k) experience is highly preferred.
  • DevOps depth, including CI/CD, observability, and on-call experience, is a plus.
  • Python data-stack experience is a plus.
