Description

  • Identify and evaluate consumer class action opportunities involving utility billing disputes, rate violations, regulatory non-compliance, and systemic overcharges.
  • Develop case theories, claims, litigation strategies, class certification assessments, damages analyses, and settlement valuations.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other litigation documents.
  • Manage discovery, including document production, interrogatories, and depositions.
  • Negotiate with defendants, opposing counsel, and co-counsel on settlements and class-wide recovery administration.
  • Represent UtiliSave and class members at hearings, depositions, mediation, and trial.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel, expert witnesses, claims administrators, and co-counsel.
  • Advise executive leadership on litigation strategy, risk allocation, and case portfolio decisions.
  • Collaborate with audit teams to convert findings into class action claims and evidence packages.
  • Build the consumer class action practice and develop supporting infrastructure as the caseload grows.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; multi-state licensure preferred.
  • At least 7 years of consumer class action litigation experience, preferably on the plaintiff side.
  • Expertise in class certification, CAFA jurisdiction, discovery management, and settlement negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer protection laws, including FCRA, FDCPA, TCPA, and state consumer protection statutes.
  • Proven ability to develop novel legal theories and handle emerging or complex legal matters.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, oral advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess litigation portfolios, prioritize resources, and make strategic decisions.
  • Experience working with outside counsel and expert consultants.
  • Self-directed, entrepreneurial approach with the ability to build a practice independently.
  • Proficiency with litigation management platforms, Westlaw or LexisNexis, and document management systems.
  • Willingness to learn utility billing, tariff structures, regulatory frameworks, and cost recovery.
  • U.S. work authorization as a citizen or active Green Card holder; no visa sponsorship available.
  • Residence in a U.S. state within one hour of Eastern Time, with availability from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET and a dedicated workspace with reliable high-speed internet.
