Description

  • Lead complex, high-exposure insurance defense matters from inception through resolution.
  • Develop case themes and effective defense strategies for litigation matters.
  • Independently handle court appearances, depositions, discovery, substantive briefs, motions, and trials.
  • Evaluate exposure, advise clients, negotiate settlements, and manage insurance carrier relationships.
  • Maintain routine client communication and cultivate relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across experience levels on case strategy and delivery.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to less experienced attorneys.
  • Contribute to the growth and continued development of the Houston practice.

Requirements

  • Active Texas Bar license in good standing.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • 8+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Experience in trucking and transportation, premises, products, construction, general liability, complex casualty, or catastrophic injury and wrongful death defense.
  • Ability to independently manage all phases of complex litigation, including discovery and trial preparation.
  • Experience conducting depositions, drafting and arguing substantive motions, and appearing in court.
  • Experience evaluating claims exposure, advising clients, negotiating settlements, and working with insurance carriers.
  • Trial experience and confidence taking an active courtroom role preferred.
  • Excellent legal writing, analytical, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and time-management systems.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $150,000–$200,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Annual billable-hours bonus starting at $10,000, with $7,500 for each additional tier.
