Description

  • Lead and coach the engineering team through regular one-on-ones, career development, and team culture building.
  • Own team composition by interviewing, hiring, and advocating for staffing needs with leadership.
  • Manage performance and compensation processes, including reviews, feedback, and promotion recommendations.
  • Partner with Product leadership to shape the roadmap, estimate and prioritize work, and report status.
  • Own engineering delivery from discovery and design through release, while maintaining engineering standards and removing blockers.
  • Contribute as a senior-level engineer by designing and implementing complex features.
  • Help raise the engineering skills of team members through guidance, code review, and technical example.
  • Partner with senior engineering leadership on architecture, technical direction, and mature engineering practices.
  • Champion CI/CD, QA discipline, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of related IT and engineering experience.
  • Experience as an Engineering Manager leading a single team of remote and on-site engineers.
  • Experience owning both team performance and delivery.
  • Background in systems languages such as Go, Rust, Java, C++, or C#.
  • Experience with distributed systems.
  • Ability to follow technical designs and verify engineering estimates.
  • Proven track record of shipping quality software on time.
  • Experience growing and improving an engineering team without disrupting delivery.
  • Experience partnering closely with senior engineers on technical direction and decision-making.
  • Experience with Product Engineering and Agile practices, including close work with Product leads.
  • U.S. residency required; ideally based on the East Coast.
  • Travel a few times a year required.
  • Go experience preferred.
  • Linux systems administration experience preferred, including permissions, mounts, and OS-level debugging.
  • Cloud platform experience preferred.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience preferred, including Ansible, Terraform, and Terragrunt.
  • Security domain experience preferred, including HSMs, cryptography, mTLS, PKI, and certificate lifecycle management.
  • KMS/HSM internals experience preferred, including envelope encryption, key wrapping, key hierarchies, and key lifecycle.
  • KMIP protocol experience preferred.
  • OAuth2/OIDC and identity provider integration experience preferred, such as Keycloak.
  • WebAuthn/FIDO2 experience preferred.
  • Policy engine experience preferred, such as OPA/Rego.
  • Messaging system experience preferred, such as NATS and JetStream.
  • Experience managing engineers building for hardened-hardware, on-premise, or non-cloud-native deployments preferred.
