Description

Design, build, and iterate on internal AI-powered tools for invoice processing, accrual workflows, document classification, and client reporting.
Write production-quality code and help set the technical standards for building, reviewing, and shipping software.
Partner with accounting staff to understand process pain points and translate them into technical system designs.
Own architecture decisions across service design, data models, API contracts, queues, workers, and cloud infrastructure.
Define and enforce security, data handling, and access control standards for sensitive financial systems.
Establish code quality standards and review practices, including responsible use of AI-generated code.
Identify and mitigate technical risks proactively as systems scale and expand toward client-facing use.
Document systems clearly so non-engineers can understand what was built and why.
Work closely with the internal product lead to bridge business requirements and technical execution.
Contribute to hiring and capability-building as the team grows.

Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production systems, products, or platforms.
Experience building and operating production backend systems, including APIs, queues, workers, and databases.
Strong command of at least one modern backend language such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or Go.
Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment on AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar platforms.
Experience with integration patterns such as webhooks, REST APIs, event-driven workflows, and third-party SaaS connectors.
Strong security fundamentals, including authentication, authorization, secrets management, and sensitive data handling.
Excellent written communication and the ability to explain technical decisions to non-engineers.
Comfort working in a small, high-ownership environment where requirements evolve.
Experience with AI/LLM application development, including prompt engineering, tool use, agentic workflows, and output validation (asset).
Familiarity with low-code/workflow automation tools such as n8n, Make, or Zapier (asset).
Experience with accounting or finance software APIs such as QuickBooks or Xero (asset).
Experience with document processing pipelines such as OCR, PDF extraction, and classification (asset).
Background in or alongside finance, accounting, or professional services environments (asset).
