Description

  • Develop embedded software for Toyota products and deliver production-ready in-vehicle features.
  • Operate with minimal oversight to define requirements with stakeholders and design implementations for new features.
  • Investigate cybersecurity controls of processors and microcontrollers and develop proofs-of-concept and implementation guidance for suppliers.
  • Contribute to and collaborate with the open-source community to expand capabilities and share broadly useful projects.
  • Develop software in accordance with team coding guidelines and industry standards (e.g., MISRA, SEI CERT, AUTOSAR).
  • Collaborate with CI/CD teams to add capabilities to the build and release pipeline and customize pipelines for new projects.
  • Collaborate with test teams to define testing strategies and assist in automated test development.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on design, implementation, and testing best practices.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of defects and lead initiatives to improve product quality and testing processes.
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders to align on deliverable expectations, deployment timelines, and testing issues, and participate in agile team activities (sprint planning, retrospectives, daily stand-ups).

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems software development covering both hardware and software components.
  • Proficiency in embedded programming languages such as C and C++, and experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Experience developing embedded Linux systems, including BSP integration and customization using Yocto.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols and hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Comfortable using the Linux command line and familiar with the Linux initialization process (systemd).
  • Experience with embedded security features such as secure boot, TrustZone, and filesystem encryption, and understanding of cryptographic primitives (keys, TLS, PKI).
  • Familiarity with Linux filesystem protections (fscrypt, LUKS, dm-verity).
  • Experience developing in compliance with safety and security standards such as MISRA, SEI CERT, and AUTOSAR, and familiarity with compliance frameworks/regulations (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434, NIST, HIPAA, OWASP).
  • Relevant security certifications and training are a plus (e.g., OSCP, SANS/GIAC, CISSP) and experience with compliance/regulatory environments is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience) and fluency in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) for business and technical discussions.
