Description

  • Lead and grow a small engineering team of 2-3 engineers through weekly demos, sprint planning, and regular 1:1s.
  • Review pull requests and provide actionable feedback on code quality, risks, anti-patterns, and improvements.
  • Evaluate technical architecture proposals and identify scalability, maintainability, and complexity trade-offs.
  • Own team delivery by scoping work, breaking down epics, removing blockers, and maintaining shipping cadence.
  • Drive AI-first engineering practices by promoting AI coding tools, LLM-assisted workflows, and prompt engineering.
  • Collaborate with product and design on roadmap prioritization and balance technical debt with feature delivery.
  • Participate in architectural decisions across a modular Rails monolith and Next.js frontend monorepo.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop engineers as the team scales.
  • Establish engineering standards, code review culture, and incident response practices.
  • Contribute technically as a hands-on leader who can read, review, and help guide production code.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a tech lead or engineering management role.
  • Strong code review skills with the ability to distinguish high-quality code from poor code and explain why.
  • Ability to evaluate architecture trade-offs in real time during design discussions.
  • Hands-on experience with backend systems such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or similar languages.
  • Demonstrated experience as an AI-first tech lead using AI development tools such as Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor.
  • Genuine curiosity about LLMs and AI-assisted engineering, with a habit of following developments and experimenting.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear writing, direct feedback, and effective facilitation.
  • Experience managing small teams with high autonomy and low process overhead.
  • Track record of shipping products in fast-paced, startup-like environments.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and/or Next.js/TypeScript is a plus.
  • Background in AI/ML product development or LLM API integrations is a plus.
  • Experience with modular monolith or domain-driven design architectures is a plus.
  • Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure knowledge, with GCP preferred, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with event-driven patterns, background jobs such as Sidekiq, or async processing pipelines is a plus.
  • Experience with subscription/SaaS business models and payment integrations is a plus.
  • Observability tooling experience with DataDog, Sentry, or Prometheus is a plus.
