Description

Build, run, and improve core backend systems with a collaborative engineering team.
Own systems end to end with a focus on quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
Lead work across the full development lifecycle, including design, estimation, implementation, testing, debugging, and deployment.
Ship code that impacts Toast’s growth and the daily operations of restaurant teams.
Partner with product and design to shape what is built and how it is built.
Contribute to team standards through code reviews and technical discussions.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to other team members.
Apply best practices for building and operating reliable systems at scale.

Requirements

5+ years of backend experience with one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, or similar.
Experience owning and operating production systems.
A track record of solving ambiguous, high-impact problems with scalable solutions.
Ability and motivation to learn quickly and apply knowledge to real-world problems.
Interest in taking on challenging projects and building systems that operate at massive scale.
Strong engineering fundamentals.
Experience with AI tools or enthusiasm for learning and using them in the workplace (preferred, based on company culture).

Benefits

Base salary range of $125,000 to $175,000 CAD.
Additional cash compensation may include overtime and bonus or commissions if eligible.
