Description

  • Own and execute compliance management processes for Toast Retail and Payments products to monitor adherence to network and regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively manage status, risks, and next steps across multiple workstreams and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Track and assess new and changing regulations, card network rules, data security standards, consumer protection laws, and emerging payment technologies.
  • Research and analyze compliance risks related to retail merchants, including high-risk categories and evolving regulatory concerns.
  • Collaborate with Merchant Risk, Retail, Legal, Product, and Operations to develop and refine compliance policies, controls, and guidance.
  • Provide practical, risk-based compliance guidance to business partners, including process and control recommendations.
  • Support audits and regulatory inquiries by gathering documentation and ensuring transparency in compliance operations.
  • Execute and support internal compliance testing, including test planning, testing, documentation, and remediation tracking.
  • Evaluate new and existing product releases and enhancements for alignment with laws, regulations, policies, and strategic partner requirements.
  • Identify compliance issues, track remediation efforts, and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support the Retail business in adopting enterprise risk and compliance frameworks, including policies, training, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, law, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, or payment processing.
  • Familiarity with card network rules such as Visa and Mastercard.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as FinCEN and OFAC.
  • Knowledge of high-risk merchant categories.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and identify compliance concerns.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex regulatory information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide structured updates on status, risks, and next steps to cross-functional partners and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership, work proactively, and drive tasks forward with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build strong partnerships across Risk, Retail, Legal, and operations teams.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and bring structure to ambiguous problems.
  • Ability to balance a collaborative culture with urgency and accountability.
  • Experience with compliance tools, transaction monitoring systems, or regulatory reporting platforms is preferred.
  • Experience in retail compliance is preferred.
  • Experience with fuel sales compliance is preferred.
  • Experience with international payments compliance is preferred.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with a base salary range of $108,000–$173,000 for Zone A, $94,000–$150,000 for Zone B, and $85,000–$136,000 for Zone C.
  • Additional total rewards may include cash compensation such as overtime and bonus/commissions if eligible.
