Description

  • Provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention counseling to LGBTQ+ young people nationwide via text, chat, or phone.
  • Deliver expert direct crisis counseling on TrevorText, TrevorChat, and TrevorLifeline.
  • Monitor crisis conversations and provide real-time support to other crisis counselors during high-risk engagements.
  • Offer peer mentoring, debriefs, feedback, and emotional support to volunteers and staff counselors.
  • Assist with training new and returning counselors through monitored shifts and chat/text observation.
  • Complete administrative and quality assurance tasks, including case reviews, case record audits, database updates, and related documentation.
  • Support queue management by accepting and directing conversation transfers as needed.
  • Communicate with third parties such as law enforcement and child welfare agencies when imminent safety or abuse concerns require escalation.
  • Review and respond to performance and quality feedback from leadership.
  • Collaborate with on-shift leaders and the broader crisis team while following protocols, procedures, and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field, or equivalent qualifying experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a crisis care setting or other relevant professional experience, or 1+ year as a Sr. Crisis Worker, or 2+ years as a Crisis Worker at The Trevor Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed performance expectations in prior crisis work roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide peer leadership in a crisis care setting.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English with strong communication and active listening skills.
  • Strong resilience and adaptability in crisis situations, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, including the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Commitment to self-care and personal well-being, with an understanding of resilience in crisis intervention work.
  • A quiet, private work environment with high-speed dedicated broadband internet access of at least 10Mb down/5Mb up.
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the United States; no visa sponsorship is provided.
  • Remote work eligibility in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii.
