Description

  • Monitor and track state and federal legislative activity using a daily bill tracking system.
  • Help build and execute policy goals and long-term advocacy strategies.
  • Write and edit policy memos, letters, talking points, reports, and public advocacy resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with nonprofits, government officials, stakeholders, and key offices.
  • Serve as a spokesperson at panels, conferences, and meetings.
  • Educate policymakers, stakeholders, and the public on LGBTQ+ policy and suicide prevention.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to keep advocacy projects aligned.
  • Manage multiple short- and long-term projects with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Train, manage, and mentor volunteers and interns.
  • Support grassroots and grasstops mobilization and defensive policy priorities as needed.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in legislative analysis, drafting, and amendment strategy in a state legislative or equivalent setting.
  • 3-5 years of experience communicating complex ideas clearly and persuasively in written, spoken, and presentational formats.
  • Experience building trusted long-term relationships with internal and external partners on advocacy initiatives.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ people, communities of color, and people with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ rights, youth mental health, or crisis intervention advocacy.
  • 1+ year of experience using legislative tracking software to follow a high volume of daily policy activity.
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Sheets, and Presentations.
  • Experience using email and SMS platforms such as Mailchimp and texting tools for grassroots activation.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, integrity, discretion, and ability to build trust across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the United States; no visa sponsorship provided.
  • Experience with technology and appropriations policy is preferred.
  • Cultural competency and understanding of LGBTQ+ and/or youth mental health experiences is preferred.

  • Salary range of $75,000 to $80,000.
