Description

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of the platform across backend, frontend, data, AI, and real-time systems.
  • Set and raise engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers and help grow the technical depth of the organization.
  • Design and implement new services and features end to end, from database to UI, with strong performance and responsiveness.
  • Build rapid prototypes and ship critical systems quickly from concept to production.
  • Solve high-risk, high-impact problems such as live video reliability, real-time engagement, commerce integrations, and AI-powered experiences.
  • Architect the platform for global 24/7 operation, including uptime, latency, cost, and graceful degradation during peak events.
  • Partner with Product and Data on experimentation infrastructure so changes can be A/B tested and measured.
  • Work closely with Product and Design from concept through launch and take full ownership of features.
  • Represent engineering with strategic customers and partners, translating customer needs into architectural decisions.
  • Contribute through design reviews, technical writing, mentorship, and hiring.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with staff or principal-level leadership on high-scale products.
  • Expert-level Node.js and TypeScript experience.
  • Strong frontend experience with React and/or Angular; experience with both is a significant plus.
  • Deep experience designing and operating distributed, real-time systems in production under 24/7 load.
  • Strong data engineering experience with SQL/NoSQL, event-driven architectures, and analytical stores such as BigQuery or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience building or shipping AI/ML-powered features in production, such as personalization, recommendations, search, or generative AI.
  • Experience with GCP services such as Firebase, Cloud Functions, Firestore, Realtime Database, and Pub/Sub is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with commerce platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce, and/or live video or streaming infrastructure, is a plus.
  • Excellent judgment on trade-offs between scope, speed, performance, and UX.
  • Clear, calm communication skills and the ability to write well and collaborate effectively.
