Description

  • Own organizational-wide data architecture by defining standards, patterns, and designs for engineering teams to implement.
  • Review data-related designs and implementations for architectural consistency, performance, and scalability.
  • Solve complex and ambiguous data engineering challenges and provide hands-on guidance when needed.
  • Produce reference implementations and proofs of concept to help teams address difficult data problems.
  • Design and develop data pipelines, integrations, and platform features with a focus on performance and scalability.
  • Build and maintain data APIs and high-volume ingestion systems.
  • Own data quality across the organization, including testing strategies and data integrity standards.
  • Consult with product managers to define, scope, and plan new data features and capabilities.
  • Partner with the CTO and engineering leadership on strategic data initiatives and long-term architectural direction.
  • Design IoT data ingestion and distribution architecture for replayability, aggregation, and real-time distribution.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies to improve the overall data infrastructure.
  • Support AI/ML data infrastructure, including model training pipelines, feature stores, and inference data flows.
  • Produce clear and thorough documentation.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional data engineering or software development experience.
  • At least 2+ years of experience providing architectural direction and design oversight to engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience setting data architecture standards and providing technical oversight across multiple engineering teams.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in computer science, data architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Substantial experience with SQL; NoSQL experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Python for data engineering workflows; Node.js experience is a plus.
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink is a plus.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or similar is a plus.
  • Experience with containerized application deployments, especially Docker, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems and data warehousing solutions is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the open source data ecosystem and how to apply it to scalable solutions.
  • Experience with message queueing architectures, especially RabbitMQ, is preferred.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, especially S3, RDS, DMS, and VPC; Redshift or EMR experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with AI/ML systems and supporting model training or inference pipelines is a plus.
  • Experience designing data architectures for IoT or high-frequency telemetry systems is highly preferred.
  • Travel availability of 8-10%.
