Description

Contribute to designing, building, evaluating, shipping, and improving Sword’s products through hands-on AI/ML development.
Develop and maintain data processing pipelines needed to build and evaluate models.
Collaborate with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to define and implement AI/ML-powered features for internal and external users.
Share knowledge and experience on how to build and operate machine learning systems.
Help grow the AI/ML function by defining and promoting best practices.
Identify and lead initiatives to add AI/ML capabilities to Sword’s products while balancing uncertainty and time-to-value tradeoffs.
Provide technical oversight and mentoring to colleagues.
Work across the full AI stack, including prompt engineering, RAG, model fine-tuning, and agentic workflows.
Support end-to-end AI treatment management systems and ongoing patient-facing AI care experiences.

Requirements

4+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning.
Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining production machine learning systems.
Strong experience with SQL and Python, plus production software development experience.
Working knowledge of the Python data stack, including numpy, pandas, matplotlib, and scikit-learn.
Experience leading and owning complex, ambiguous projects from ideation through completion and maintenance.
Experience providing technical oversight and mentoring colleagues.
Ability to learn quickly and dive deep into new problems and fields.
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize and solve issues according to the team’s direction and goals.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and wearing different hats (preferred).
Experience building data processing pipelines (preferred).
Experience shipping applications using LLMs and Generative AI (preferred).
Experience using cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS (preferred).
Must be based in Portugal and possess a valid EU visa.
No relocation assistance is offered.
