Description

  • Design and implement large-scale, high-volume, fault-tolerant backend systems that process and manage petabytes of customer data.
  • Improve scheduling algorithms that elastically distribute load across clusters of thousands of machines at runtime.
  • Enhance systems that deliver performance guarantees within a shared-everything multi-tenant architecture.
  • Contribute to re-architecting internal message processing technology to petabyte-per-day scale.
  • Help manage exabytes of data using technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Partner with teams across Sumo Logic, including Search, Security, and Metrics & Tracing, to define requirements and architect solutions for core ingest needs.
  • Work on distributed systems challenges involving storage, messaging, search, and analytics.
  • Support occasional on-call rotations for the service as needed.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline; M.S. is a plus.
  • 2+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of ownership and delivery.
  • Experience developing scalable distributed data processing solutions.
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming.
  • Experience running large, scalable distributed services in a microservice architecture.
  • Hands-on object-oriented programming experience, such as with Java or Scala.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and experience with occasional on-call availability on a rotating schedule every 6-8 weeks.
  • Experience in big data and/or 24x7 commercial services is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka is a plus.
  • Comfort working in Unix environments, including Linux and OS X.
  • Agile software development experience, including test-driven, iterative, and incremental development, is a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and for the duration of employment; visa sponsorship is not available.

Benefits

  • Remote and hybrid work options are available for this role.
  • Expected annual base salary range of $116,000 to $136,000.
  • Eligible roles may participate in bonus or commission plans.
  • Eligible roles may receive equity awards.
  • Benefits offerings are included as part of compensation.
  • The company operates in the security and cloud operations space with a platform used globally.
