Description

  • Lead APA’s collective action work in the K-12 and youth development issue area end to end, from ideation and design through funding, execution, and impact measurement.
  • Oversee two active collective action initiatives and guide three additional concepts through design and vetting.
  • Develop new initiatives, including theories of action, intended outcomes, concept papers, multi-year budgets, and operating plans.
  • Engage member organizations and field experts to identify the highest-leverage opportunities for multi-organization collaboration.
  • Build a critical mass of member organizations and strategic partners around each initiative.
  • Partner with the VP of Development to identify funders, manage proposals and grant agreements, and secure anchor funding.
  • Manage staffing, partner coordination, iterative program design, funder reporting, and continuous improvement across multiple initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for 75+ member organizations and build peer-level relationships with CEOs and executive teams.
  • Lead the annual K-12 issue area convening, including agenda setting, facilitation, attendance, and post-event evaluation.
  • Translate member needs into programming and strengthen retention, satisfaction, and community cohesion within the Alliance.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive senior leadership experience with increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Deep K-12 expertise with a strong understanding of district, network, and state-level school systems.
  • Direct nonprofit operating experience; experience running a direct-service nonprofit is strongly preferred over district-only backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated operator and executor mindset with a track record of doing, not just managing.
  • Proven ability to build trusted executive-level relationships with CEOs and C-suite leaders.
  • Strong collective action instincts and ability to design initiatives that create measurable field-wide impact.
  • Clear understanding of the difference between advocacy and action-oriented joint ventures.
  • Strongly preferred: experience at the intersection of K-12 systems and national nonprofit or intermediary organizations.
  • Strongly preferred: C-suite or VP-level experience at a national nonprofit with network- or membership-based structures.
  • Strongly preferred: fundraising experience with education-focused foundations and national philanthropies.

Benefits

  • Salary of $215,000–$235,000, commensurate with experience.
