Description

  • Define and drive the machine learning technical strategy for Spotify Home across retrieval, ranking, page composition, layout optimization, and real-time personalization.
  • Lead hands-on development of ML models and systems from prototyping to productionization at global scale.
  • Design, build, evaluate, ship, and iterate on large-scale ML systems that directly power the Home experience for hundreds of millions of users.
  • Work at the intersection of recommender systems, generative models, and user intent understanding to deliver adaptive and engaging Home experiences.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and user research to translate UX goals and user needs into robust ML solutions.
  • Drive best practices in experimentation, offline/online evaluation, model lifecycle management, and system reliability.
  • Collaborate with platform and foundation teams to leverage shared models and infrastructure while tailoring solutions to Home’s needs.
  • Mentor senior engineers, influence architectural and modeling choices, provide technical reviews and documentation, and act as a technical ambassador across Spotify’s ML community.

Requirements

  • Deep background in machine learning and recommender systems with a strong track record of translating ML innovation into shipped product impact.
  • Extensive experience building and operating large-scale, user-facing ML systems in production.
  • Hands-on experience across the full ML stack: data, modeling, evaluation, serving, experimentation, and iteration.
  • Experience with or strong interest in transformer-based models, sequence modeling, and generative approaches in recommender systems.
  • Production experience with Python, Java, or Scala; experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX is a strong plus.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to reason about latency, scalability, trade-offs, and end-to-end architecture.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives, shape strategy, and influence cross-functional stakeholders while thriving in ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, product, design, user research, and leadership.
  • Bias to action: experience building prototypes/MVPs, launching systems in production, and driving technical narratives; team-first mindset and mentoring experience.
  • Location availability within the North America region and ability to collaborate in the Eastern Standard Time zone.
