Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key product areas.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and maintain shared components.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and approval processes for different system areas.
  • Handle critical issues, manage feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for meaningful learning.
  • Drive improvements to team processes and address recurring technical problems at their source.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Advanced experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, and JUnit.
  • Experience with Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, and Jetpack Compose.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background services.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and areas that cannot be effectively covered by tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce processes or technical changes that teams continue using independently.
  • Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication, self-direction, and willingness to lead organizational change.
  • Ability to explain how a team uses AI agents in its development workflow.
  • Open-source Android experience and experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js are preferred.
