Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, partnering with Design from decision through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features and handle critical issues.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated implementations, and maintain shared components.
  • Reduce manual release work and expand automated verification and testing.
  • Plan team work, establish appropriate review and sign-off processes, and improve development practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds to QA.
  • Support early-career engineers through meaningful work and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including the limitations of automated tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that persist after adoption.
  • Comfort leading changes to team processes and handling the resulting friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system behavior and risk.
  • Track record of building shared tools or systems that the broader team uses.
  • Ability to explain how teams work with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Self-directed approach to improving the app and codebase.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
