Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features and handle critical issues.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and maintain shared code and infrastructure.
  • Improve development workflows by reducing manual release work and expanding automated verification.
  • Plan team work, establish appropriate review processes, and drive changes to engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful assignments and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Understanding of software testing, including test strategy and areas that cannot be effectively covered by tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that continue after implementation.
  • Experience making evidence-based decisions about review depth and engineering processes.
  • Track record of building reusable solutions adopted by the wider team.
  • Ability to explain how teams use AI agents in their development workflows.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Strong self-direction, communication skills, and willingness to drive difficult process changes.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience or experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js preferred.
