Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate effective implementations into shared team solutions.
  • Maintain tested, clear, reusable shared components and reduce duplicated implementations.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Lead planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while representing team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and support their development.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and testability limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering improvements that remain adopted by the team.
  • Experience influencing teams to change processes and handling the resulting friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate levels of code review based on system risk.
  • Track record of building reusable tools or systems adopted by teammates.
  • Ability to explain how teams use AI agents in their development workflows.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Self-directed approach to improving applications and codebases.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source Android projects (preferred).
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js (preferred).
