Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions through release, in partnership with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features and resolve critical issues.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated solutions into shared, maintainable components.
  • Improve testing, automation, release processes, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Lead planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate technical constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for their development.
  • Identify recurring problems and improve systems and processes to prevent them from recurring.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Understanding of effective test strategy, including test limitations and appropriate coverage.
  • Experience introducing practices or systems that teams continued using independently.
  • Ability to lead workflow changes and manage the friction associated with them.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk.
  • Track record of building tools or systems adopted by the broader team.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Self-directed approach to improving the app and codebase.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Open-source Android experience is preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js is preferred.
