Description

  • Own major Android features from product decisions through release in partnership with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Improve reliability metrics, testing, release processes, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate shared solutions into maintainable, reusable components.
  • Reduce manual release intervention and automate verification where possible.
  • Lead planning, determine appropriate review processes, and drive improvements to team workflows.
  • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions while representing team constraints.
  • Handle critical issues and feature releases.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through appropriately challenging work and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit experience.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test limitations and appropriate coverage strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that persist after adoption.
  • Comfort influencing teams to change how they work and managing the resulting friction.
  • Ability to assess which changes require extensive review based on system behavior and risk.
  • Track record of building tools or systems adopted by the wider engineering team.
  • Ability to explain how a team uses AI agents in its development workflow.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Self-directed approach to improving products and codebases.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience contributing to open-source Android projects is preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js is preferred.
