Description

  • Own major Android features end to end from technical decisions through release, partnering with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated implementations into shared solutions.
  • Improve testing, automation, release processes, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Reduce manual release intervention and address recurring issues at their underlying cause.
  • Plan team work and establish appropriate review and approval practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful work and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including testability limitations and appropriate coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce processes or technical improvements that teams continue using.
  • Experience influencing teams to change how they work and managing the resulting friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate levels of review based on system risk.
  • Track record of building reusable tools or systems adopted by the wider team.
  • Ability to explain how teams use AI agents in their development workflows.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Self-directed approach to improving products and codebases.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
