Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product areas.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate shared solutions into tested, maintainable implementations.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
  • Lead planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful work and learning opportunities.
  • Drive changes to team processes and address recurring technical problems at their root.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including test limitations and appropriate coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that teams continue using independently.
  • Experience building shared solutions adopted by the wider team, not only personal productivity tools.
  • Ability to assess which changes require extensive review and which can follow lighter processes.
  • Experience influencing teams through process changes and managing the resulting friction.
  • Ability to explain how teams use AI agents in their development workflows.
  • Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, web, or Node.js is preferred.
