Description

  • Own major Android features from product decisions through release in collaboration with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide technical mentorship.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate effective solutions into shared team practices.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and approval processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful work and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including testability limitations and appropriate test strategy.
  • Experience introducing team practices or technical solutions that continued to be used independently.
  • Ability to lead changes in team processes and manage the resulting friction.
  • Experience building shared systems or tools adopted by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in improving Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or Node.js is preferred.
  • Ability to complete technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment.
