Description

  • Own major Android features end to end from planning through release in collaboration with Design.
  • Write and review production code while providing constructive technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate shared solutions into maintainable team standards.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Run planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for learning.
  • Drive improvements to team processes and address recurring technical problems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, Jetpack Navigation, Android animations, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including identifying what should not be covered by tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that remain adopted by a team.
  • Experience building shared systems and tools used by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to assess which code changes require extensive review and which do not.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in improving Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and self-direction.
  • Experience with Room, Custom Views, Canvas, Paint, or Jetpack Compose.
  • Open-source Android experience or experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js preferred.
