Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions through release, in collaboration with Design.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide developmental technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key product features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate successful solutions into shared team practices and components.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Run planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to communicate technical constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers through meaningful work and learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Advanced experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Understanding of effective testing strategies, including identifying what should not be covered by tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that continue after implementation.
  • Experience influencing teams to change how they work and managing associated friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk and behavior.
  • Experience building shared tools or systems adopted by the broader team.
  • Ability to explain how engineering teams use AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and a drive to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
