Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated solutions into shared, maintainable components.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Lead planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and create opportunities for growth.
  • Drive process improvements and address recurring technical problems at their root.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product surface while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test coverage limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that teams continue using independently.
  • Experience building shared systems adopted by the broader team.
  • Ability to assess which changes require extensive review and which do not.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX beyond requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to lead through process change.
  • Self-direction to improve the app and codebase beyond the stated specification.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred; iOS, web, or Node.js experience is a bonus.
