Description

  • Develop manufacturable explosive devices and hardware integration designs for the Starship and Super Heavy Flight Termination System.
  • Own the full development process from concept through delivery, including hardware design, analysis, production layout, electromechanical assembly, ordnance assembly, environmental testing, and vehicle integration.
  • Validate hardware reliability through shock, vibration, thermal cycling, climatic, and live fire testing.
  • Design experiments, develop fixturing, and prepare technical reports to ground analysis in test results.
  • Partner with manufacturing, production, testing, and supply chain teams to increase build rate, factory yield, and delivery throughput.
  • Generate and maintain drawings, component specifications, analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Lead root cause investigations across development, production, test, integration, and launch, and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with regulatory partners to interpret, tailor, and challenge space industry regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with stage, avionics, and flight safety teams to determine the simplest vehicle-level solution and inform system architecture.
  • Drive zero in-flight anomalies, reduce production and launch delays, and minimize containments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or hands-on manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems through professional, project, research, or combined experience.
  • Master's degree or 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Experience with LSDYNA/ANSYS, BlastX, CHEETA, and/or Hydrocode.
  • Hands-on experience with high voltage, electronics, or explosives.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Leadership experience on a project or research team.
  • Understanding of explosives, solid mechanics, and dynamics.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must be willing to handle and test high explosive devices.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain ATF explosives clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel less than 25%.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen/national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
