Description

  • Develop in-house machining capability for Starship components and deliver high-quality precision parts to factory assembly areas.
  • Analyze parts and assemblies for design for manufacturability to optimize them for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Maintain a close feedback loop with downstream operations to support product success and rapid iteration.
  • Review quality concerns from part inspection and approve out-of-tolerance conditions after rigorous investigation of use case, assembly, and testing.
  • Identify, recommend, procure, install, maintain, and calibrate machine shop equipment.
  • Lead cost optimization and cost reduction initiatives for fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing and fabrication methods and techniques.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to sequence of operations and equipment utilization.
  • Collaborate with other SpaceX machine shop facilities to share capabilities and address capacity and scheduling needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
  • 1+ years of machine shop experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience setting up and operating state-of-the-art machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard machine shop manufacturing processes and setups.
  • Experience operating CNCs, conventional lathes, mills, and other equipment used to manufacture high-precision parts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming for lathes and mills.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and inspection procedures.
  • Experience with precision metrology systems such as photogrammetry, CMMs, and 3D imaging.
  • Available to work long hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must be comfortable stooping, bending, and standing.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted for 1-2 hours per day.
  • Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorization.

  • Pay range of $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year for Manufacturing Engineer/Level 1 and $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year for Manufacturing Engineer/Level 2.
