Description

  • Lead the development, deployment, and governance of portfolio management and loss mitigation models across all credit products.
  • Oversee next-generation modeling approaches to manage portfolio losses while maintaining loss guardrails.
  • Incorporate advanced techniques such as NLP, graph mining, LLMs, and deep learning to solve complex risk problems.
  • Evaluate and integrate alternative data sources, including macroeconomic variables, tri-bureau data, LexisNexis, and cash flow data, to improve predictive performance.
  • Manage, recruit, mentor, and develop a team of Staff and Senior Data Scientists.
  • Own model risk management for the portfolio, including documentation, monitoring, and 2nd Line of Defense review and approval.
  • Interact and negotiate with senior management and external stakeholders to align on high-impact business decisions.
  • Automate model monitoring and governance processes to create scalable, auditable infrastructure.
  • Guide the team’s transition from traditional modeling to modern machine learning platforms.
  • Support succession planning and build a high-accountability, low-ego team culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in credit risk, modeling, and data science within a regulated financial institution such as a FinTech or bank.
  • At least 3 years of people management experience leading technical staff.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Operations Research.
  • Deep expertise in advanced statistical and machine learning methods, including gradient boosting, deep learning, and causal inference.
  • Working knowledge of model risk management standards such as SR 11-7.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, including PySpark, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Strong SQL and data warehouse experience, including technologies such as Snowflake and Hive.
  • Familiarity with modern MLOps platforms and cloud computing, including AWS.
  • Ability to distill complex analytical concepts into clear narratives for non-technical leadership.
  • Experience recruiting, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical talent is required.

  • Base salary range of $172,800 to $297,000 USD.
