Description

  • Direct the development and deployment of next-generation underwriting models to increase origination while maintaining loss guardrails.
  • Apply advanced techniques such as NLP, graph mining, LLMs, and deep learning to solve high-impact risk problems.
  • Evaluate and integrate alternative data sources, including tri-bureau, LexisNexis, and cash flow data, to improve predictive performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Staff and Senior Data Scientists while building a high-accountability, low-ego culture.
  • Own model risk management for the portfolio, including documentation, monitoring, and 2LOD review and approval.
  • Partner with senior management and external stakeholders to align on competing viewpoints and drive key business decisions.
  • Automate model monitoring and governance processes to create scalable, auditable infrastructure.
  • Transition the team from traditional modeling approaches to next-generation machine learning platforms.
  • Recruit and support team succession planning and talent development.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in credit risk, modeling, and data science within a regulated financial institution such as a FinTech or bank.
  • At least 3 years of people management experience leading technical staff.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Operations Research.
  • Deep expertise in advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, including gradient boosting, deep learning, and causal inference.
  • Detailed working knowledge of model risk management standards, including SR 11-7.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, including PySpark, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience with SQL and data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake and Hive.
  • Familiarity with modern MLOps platforms and cloud computing, especially AWS.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to non-technical leadership.
  • Experience operating in a highly regulated environment.
