Description

  • Define the long-term data engineering strategy aligned with company priorities and engineering best practices.
  • Design coherent data ecosystems across multiple pipelines and API boundaries.
  • Make high-impact technical decisions on architecture, build-vs-buy tradeoffs, and framework selection.
  • Review designs to identify and mitigate technical risks before implementation.
  • Implement solutions that improve developer efficiency and establish engineering-wide quality standards.
  • Deliver major data features and systems reliably with appropriate monitoring and success metrics.
  • Identify and act on group-wide opportunities that support SmithRx’s business strategy.
  • Enforce data governance policies, including PII/PHI protection, security, and compliance.
  • Raise the reliability of internally and externally shared data through strong data quality practices.
  • Influence cross-functional roadmaps, mentor engineers, and communicate technical strategy to executive stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of industrial experience in data engineering with an advanced degree, or 12+ years with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Start-up and healthcare experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong skills in PySpark, SQL, and Python are required.
  • Experience with modern object-oriented or compiled languages such as C#, C++, Go, Java, or Scala is a plus.
  • Demonstrated mastery of data modeling concepts, database design principles, and data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools and frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, dbt, Looker, or Superset.
  • In-depth experience managing the full data lifecycle, including development, implementation, and production release of complex distributed data processing solutions.
  • Proven ability to make decisions that optimize for the broader engineering organization in ambiguous environments.
