Description

  • Manage and maintain the organization's Palo Alto firewall infrastructure.
  • Oversee the deployment, configuration, and ongoing support of Palo Alto firewall devices and cloud firewall configurations.
  • Monitor and optimize firewall and network performance to minimize downtime and improve resource allocation.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex connectivity, performance, and security issues across firewall systems.
  • Apply patches, updates, and security configurations to maintain network protection.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for firewall configurations, procedures, policies, and network diagrams.
  • Work closely with other IT teams to integrate firewall solutions and support broader network security needs.
  • Lead escalation management across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 support activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior network and firewall administrators and other IT staff.
  • Support incident response, service request management, and infrastructure monitoring activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of applicable experience.
  • Public trust security clearance.
  • Expertise configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls such as Palo Alto, Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, Check Point, or Juniper SRX.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles, including segmentation, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), NAT, ACLs, and IDS/IPS.
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, plus Layer 2 technologies.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing security policies, objects, and rulesets while maintaining compliance.
  • Experience with log analysis, packet captures, and network traffic inspection for threat identification and remediation.
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools such as Splunk, QRadar, or ELK.
  • Proficiency administering Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments.
  • Experience following structured change control processes and documentation in ITIL or ISO environments.
  • Basic to intermediate scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed network diagrams, firewall rule documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) certification preferred.
  • Experience with cloud firewalls and network security configurations in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of next-generation firewall technologies such as threat prevention, URL filtering, SSL decryption, application control, and User-ID mapping preferred.
  • Understanding of zero trust principles and micro-segmentation strategies preferred.
  • Experience integrating firewalls with NAC solutions such as Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass preferred.
  • Familiarity with load balancing and proxy technologies such as F5, Citrix Netscaler, or reverse proxy systems preferred.
  • Experience in regulated environments with frameworks such as FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, PCI-DSS, or HIPAA preferred.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, communication, quantitative management, and results-oriented skills.
