Description

  • Architect and own core routing systems, including route optimization, dispatch state machines, and real-time tracking infrastructure.
  • Design scalable backend services for high-volume, real-time route execution, tracking, reporting, and optimization.
  • Build web interfaces and APIs that let dispatchers and fleet managers create, assign, and monitor routes and deliveries.
  • Implement integrations with TMS/ERP systems, including legacy platforms such as AS/400 and SAP.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across time zones to deliver cohesive product experiences.
  • Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar for technical direction, system design, and code quality.
  • Make tradeoff decisions that balance speed and long-term maintainability with customer impact as the priority.
  • Collaborate with product, sales, and customer success stakeholders to launch features and maintain a tight feedback loop.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales globally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role.
  • Experience executing in ambiguous environments and delivering customer value.
  • Strong programming, coding, and design fundamentals.
  • Experience designing and architecting large, high-scale distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience shaping or improving routing products (preferred).
  • Experience with geospatial data, real-time systems, and fleet management platforms (preferred).
  • Experience as a tech lead or in a similar role that directly influences other engineers’ output (preferred).
  • Experience building mobile applications, especially React Native and GPS/navigation apps (preferred).
  • Ability and willingness to engage directly with customers when needed (preferred).
  • Startup or founder experience, with a bias for speed and leverage (preferred).

  • Annual base salary of $232,000 to $348,000 USD.
