Description

  • Design, build, and operate backend services for a real-time, multiuser video production application.
  • Own services end to end from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
  • Develop and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • Optimize data access and real-time state handling with PostgreSQL and Redis.
  • Ensure services remain fast, reliable, resilient, and maintainable under latency and bursty traffic.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering partners to turn ambiguous feature requests into technical plans.
  • Troubleshoot issues across application, data, and infrastructure layers and help mitigate production incidents.
  • Participate in deployment practices and continuously improve operational processes.
  • Raise engineering quality through code reviews, mentorship, and strong implementation decisions.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while applying strong systems design fundamentals.

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering experience building production systems in TypeScript, Golang, or both.
  • Solid SQL fundamentals and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
  • Experience designing and implementing backend services and APIs, including REST and GraphQL.
  • Strong systems design skills and the ability to work autonomously in complex, multi-service architectures.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across application, data, and infrastructure layers.
  • Experience with video technologies, live streaming workflows, codecs, or media-processing systems (preferred).
  • Experience administering or configuring servers and virtual machines, and working in Linux-based production environments (preferred).
  • Experience with concurrent programming or event-driven patterns for real-time collaboration and multiuser backends (preferred).
  • Experience owning infrastructure as code such as Terraform, Pulumi, or ArgoCD (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth2 or OpenID Connect (preferred).
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively while understanding the underlying system design and code quality (preferred).

Benefits

  • Annual base salary of $155,000 to $195,000 CAD.
