Description

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team across a complex multi-platform codebase.
  • Run the team’s development cadence, including sprint planning, standups, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and code reviews.
  • Manage performance reviews, objective setting, career progression, promotions, and calibration.
  • Prioritize team workload across feature work, customer escalations, pipeline health, and technical debt reduction.
  • Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, including quarterly performance reviews and work quality oversight.
  • Own the architecture and development of the backup agent, including backup orchestration, registration, lifecycle management, certificate rotation, and secure communication.
  • Ensure reliable cross-platform behavior across Windows, Linux, and Unix.
  • Lead refactoring and modernization efforts while maintaining backward compatibility.
  • Own CI/CD pipeline health, including failure triage, test stability, and build infrastructure.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for critical customer defects, coordinating root cause analysis, fixes, and patches across release branches.
  • Own release sign-offs for the agent across product release trains.
  • Provide on-call escalation support and maintain operational readiness.
  • Partner with Product Management to define and prioritize the roadmap.
  • Collaborate with adjacent platform teams, Support, Sales Engineering, and Field teams on integrations and customer issues.
  • Contribute to next-generation agent architecture and cloud-native agent strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 8-10+ years of total software development experience, with significant systems-level programming experience.
  • 2-3+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience with direct management of software development teams.
  • Strong foundation in systems software development, such as agents, system services, daemons, or endpoint software.
  • Proven cross-platform development experience shipping production software on Windows and Linux, and ideally Unix variants.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, client-server architectures, TLS, and certificate management.
  • Strong preference for experience with backup/recovery, data protection, or storage infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and test automation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop systems engineers at various experience levels.
  • Track record of resolving customer escalations and coordinating fixes across multiple release branches.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent workstreams, including features, bug fixes, releases, and pipeline health.
  • Experience with release management and delivering enterprise software on regular cadences.
  • Proven collaboration with Product Management, Support, and Field Engineering teams.
  • Outstanding communication skills for quality reviews and cross-functional forums.
