Description

Design and build scalable backend systems for complex integrations with government and enterprise partners.
Develop the infrastructure and patterns for a bidirectional sync system, including error handling, async workflows, and operational automation.
Eliminate manual operational work by creating backend services and Lambda functions that reduce support intervention.
Implement observability through structured logging, metrics, alerting, and tracing to detect issues early.
Debug and validate integration workflows using MongoDB queries, CloudWatch Logs Insights, and SQL queries.
Document runbooks and create internal tools that help non-technical teams diagnose and resolve common issues.
Collaborate with support, customer success, and external partners to validate fixes and coordinate API or deployment changes.
Measure and communicate the impact of automation and reliability improvements across the platform.
Participate in architectural discussions for broader platform initiatives and promote reliability best practices.
Mentor other engineers and share technical learnings across the engineering team.

Requirements

5–8+ years of experience in backend, platform, or integration engineering roles.
Strong backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js and modern AWS services such as Lambda, EventBridge, and SQS.
Deep understanding of distributed systems patterns, including idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, and error handling.
Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs.
Proficiency with at least one database technology, either SQL or NoSQL, in production systems.
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using logs, metrics, and tracing.
Experience with GraphQL API design and implementation is highly valuable.
Experience with MongoDB or DynamoDB for async workflows and state management is highly valuable.
SQL/data warehouse experience with tools such as Redshift or PostgreSQL is highly valuable.
Experience with government APIs, legacy enterprise systems, or limited-documentation partners is highly valuable.
Experience with event-driven architecture at scale using serverless patterns is highly valuable.
Familiarity with CloudWatch Logs Insights, New Relic, or similar observability platforms is highly valuable.
Experience with multi-tenant architecture and tenant-specific configuration management is highly valuable.
Background working in strict SLA, compliance-heavy, or high-operational-load environments is highly valuable.
The role is remote in Canada, with occasional travel up to once per quarter.
