Description

  • Perform failure analysis and forensic engineering investigations for mechanical systems, products, equipment, and incidents.
  • Investigate vehicle accidents and failures involving systems such as brakes, transmission, throttle, and steering.
  • Reconstruct vehicular collisions using analysis, CAE-based tools, and test data where appropriate.
  • Analyze single- and multiple-vehicle collisions, including damage, speed, friction, perception and response, kinematics, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Document, preserve, and map collision scene evidence and inspect vehicles, parts, sites, and equipment.
  • Prepare CAD-based and manual sketches, demonstrative diagrams and charts, and written reports of findings.
  • Review codes, standards, technical manuals, drawings, data logs, and literature to assess design, installation, operation, and maintenance issues.
  • Conduct laboratory testing, mechanical calculations, and related analyses to determine origin, failure mechanism, and root cause.
  • Present findings to clients and provide expert testimony in depositions or trial as needed.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and support other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • ACTAR accreditation is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in vehicle accident reconstruction and/or mechanical engineering is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, report writing, and general technical document drafting skills are required.
  • Project management and/or field investigation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously with strong organization, time management, attention to detail, and analytical judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including direct client interaction and testimony.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computer-assisted engineering/design software is required.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in physically demanding conditions, including climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces, and driving to job sites.
