Description

  • Lead grant management across the full award lifecycle, from pre-award planning through closeout.
  • Oversee donor-funded awards and maintain visibility into commitments, deadlines, risks, and dependencies.
  • Lead subgranting policies, due diligence, award development, monitoring, amendments, and closeout.
  • Establish systems for tracking grant performance, budgets, reporting obligations, compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with Programs, Development, Finance, Legal, Operations, and country teams on grant delivery and issue resolution.
  • Develop and improve grants management policies, procedures, tools, workflows, and documentation standards.
  • Use technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve grant tracking, reporting, and portfolio visibility.
  • Advise senior leadership on complex awards, subawards, compliance issues, and portfolio-level risks.
  • Lead and develop grants management staff while building organizational capability through guidance and training.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across the grants portfolio.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in grants, award, or portfolio management, preferably in global health, international development, humanitarian assistance, or a similar donor-funded environment.
  • Significant experience managing complex donor awards from pre-award assessment and negotiation through implementation, reporting, modification, and closeout.
  • Significant experience managing subgrants or subawards, including due diligence, contracting, monitoring, compliance, risk management, and closeout.
  • Experience with major institutional and philanthropic donors and operationalizing donor requirements.
  • Experience developing organization-wide grants management policies, processes, systems, and controls.
  • Experience managing and developing grants management professionals in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience managing international portfolios spanning multiple countries, partners, donors, and funding streams.
  • Strong knowledge of donor compliance, restricted funding, grant budgets, financial monitoring, reporting, fiduciary risk, and risk-based subrecipient management.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, judgment, analytical ability, communication, negotiation, facilitation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, public health, business or public administration, finance, nonprofit management, or a related field; advanced degree or professional qualification preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures, functions, and geographies in a remote, globally distributed organization.
  • Experience with government, multilateral, bilateral, or philanthropic funding; country offices and low- and middle-income-country partners; audits; or French and other relevant languages preferred.
