Description

  • Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
  • Design, build and maintain tools, APIs, and integrations for product domains assigned to the team.
  • Actively participate in product work: provide feedback, suggest technical solutions, and propose product improvements based on engineering insights.
  • Contribute to and maintain the shared codebase, perform and provide feedback on code reviews.
  • Debug and resolve technical and business issues, and instrument verification to close the loop on quality.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers and participate in hiring-related activities.
  • Participate in non-team activities such as support rotations, RFC discussions, and operational tasks.
  • Propose, design, and operationalize agentic/automation workflows end-to-end (spec → plan → execute → verify) to speed delivery of outcomes.
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives so teams can apply automation across domains.
  • Use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating on them.
  • Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
  • Experience with Postgres (or similar relational databases).
  • Experience with CI/CD (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins or similar).
  • Familiarity with Remote’s tech context is helpful: backend stack uses Elixir and Phoenix, front-end uses React and Next.js, deployments on AWS, GitLab for CI/CD.
  • Nice to have: Kubernetes, Docker, AWS experience.
  • Nice to have: Next.js and frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Comfort working asynchronously and remotely, and readiness to start as soon as possible (reporting to an Engineering Team Leader).
  • Willingness to complete an async code exercise and participate in multi-stage interview process (including prior employment verification).
