Description

  • Lead the development and delivery of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
  • Design, implement, and own APIs, integrations, and backend tooling that operate in production reliably and at scale.
  • Participate in product work by providing technical feedback, suggesting solutions, and influencing product decisions for the team’s domain.
  • Define specs, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality for features and projects.
  • Implement, propose, and operationalize end-to-end agentic/automation workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify) to deliver outcomes faster.
  • Build reusable agentic workflow primitives and components in the codebase for repeated use across domains.
  • Contribute to and review code in the shared codebase; provide constructive feedback on code reviews.
  • Debug and resolve technical and business issues, and participate in support rotations and incident handling as needed.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers, and contribute to hiring, RFC discussions, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable; investigate and implement platform improvements.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating on them.
  • Ability to think in systems: define clear specifications, decompose plans, instrument verification, and close quality loops.
  • Experience with Postgres or similar relational databases.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD systems such as GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins or similar and deploying frequently to production.
  • Experience with functional programming languages is a plus (Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, Haskell, etc.).
  • Experience or familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker (nice to have).
  • Experience with AWS (nice to have).
  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as Next.js and React/Vue/Angular is desirable but not required.
